![]() Monthly Board Meeting Cancelled but Not Support for Community ProtectionIn March 2020, our board meeting was cancelled due to nationwide social isolation measures. No tips required immediate action and other items could be managed effectively per our By-Laws.For instance, your Board of Directors is considering a grant to sheriff’s officials leading a multi-disciplinary task force team formed in Liberty County. Though not a SWAT team in name, this task force will handle high risk encounters as its mandate. Task force team members require protective plates to insert in their vests to best ensure safety in situations expected to involve more than hand gun fire. This request is generally encouraged; however, coordination is ongoing to ensure available statewide grants have first been utilized. The request is for less than $10,000 and prudent use of donated funds is a very high priority for the Board of Directors. The next need is just around the corner and if funds are available to handle up to half of these projected costs, let’s use them first! |

![]() Remote Procedures Ensure Ongoing Support of TIPS Hotline and Law EnforcementYour board developed the capability to approve measures and respond rapidly to urgent matters in between monthly board meetings. These capabilities are in use extensively now as public board meetings are not possible. We request assistance notifying all in our communities that the TIPS hotline is functioning at full capacity and should be utilized. Compliant and efficient measures will be reviewed and passed using remote meeting and messaging capabilities to pay rewards. Support for law enforcement will not be on hold. |

![]() Spotlight – Remembering William “Randy” Randall McDanielLast month another hero in Montgomery County, Chief Deputy and longtime Sheriff’s department mentor Randy McDaniel passed away after a courageous battle which for him began in 2013, with ALS. An Air Force veteran, awards for his leadership are too numerous to list in this space. An ardent supporter of Crime Stoppers who served in Montgomery County as well as on state Crime Stoppers boards and key law enforcement groups, successes achieved by this program could in no way have occurred without his vision and support.Chief McDaniel was an amazing example of how to best live an impactful life despite a severely debilitating diagnosis. He remained effective and active as a Sheriff’s Department employee for 3 years after diagnosis. He led a substantial life, well lived. He continues to live on in the lives of his wife, family, friends and the accomplishments of the many officers he led and mentored. |
